The Main choir is open to all Youth aged 9 - 17 years. It is not restricted to Catholics.
Membership is by audition only. Ideal candidates are committed, focused, with a good sense of humor (that is sometimes quirky in line with their high intelligence), effortlessly maintain above average academic achievement, who love music and are clearly ahead of their classmates whether that be in orchestra, band, choir or general music studies. Please contact the Cathedral office or email John Webber, the Director of Cathedral Music Ministries, [email protected] to arrange an audition.
For the 2024-2025 choir season a Training Choir will be established to take students from 5 - 9 years old, and those students 9 years and older who need to develop further skills before joining the main choir. This group will meet once a week for skills development and only perform on Christmas Eve in the first semester. Children 9 years and older can transfer to the main choir at any time once deemed ready.
Musicianship training is based on integrating the Royal School of Church Music's Voice for Life program - a graded sequence of workbook-based instruction designed to take a musically gifted singer over the course of 6-10 years to professional level together with the Australian Music Examination Board Theory Syllabus and a Kodaly approach to sight singing training.
