Girl Choristers meet 5:15-6:00 PM Fridays for choir practice. Musicianship classes piano, singing and band insrtument lessons are by arrangement.
Starting separate boys and girls divisions in March 2022 - Most new people will have separate rehearsal groups from the current group in order to focus on their different vocal training needs. Meeting times for these groups will be advised.
The current girl's group sings for special occasions and at 10:00 AM Mass every other Sunday of the academic year. Warm-up 9:30 AM. Normally, new singers will not commence public performance until at least the start of the next academic year in order to focus on developing proper vocal technique and music reading skills.
Open to all Youth aged 9 yo - 17 yo. It is not restricted to Catholics.
Membership is by audition only. Ideal candidates are committed, focused, with a good sense of humor (that is sometimes quirky in-line with their high intelligence), effortlessly maintain above average academic achievement, who love music and are clearly ahead of their classmates whether that be in orchestra, band, choir or general music studies. Please contact the cathedral office or email John Webber, the Director of Cathedral Music Ministries, [email protected] to arrange an audition.
Musicianship training is based on integrating the Royal School of Church Music's Voice for life program - a graded sequence of workbook based instruction designed to take a musically gifted singer over the course of 6-10 years to professional level together withthe Australian Music Examination Board Theory Syllabus and a Kodaly approach to sight singing training.
